About Us

Our Unavale journey began in the winter of 2021 when a fortuitous internet search came across a once in a lifetime opportunity to become custodians of a truly unique vineyard on the rugged and spectacular Flinders Island, located in Bass Strait off Tasmania’s northeast coast.

We have both been involved in the wine industry for over 15 years at various wineries across Australia. Our dream has always been to have our own unique site and use all our experience to chase the elusive goal of creating the perfect wines.

Initially planted in 1999 by Roger and Bev Watson, whose vision and devotion we aspire to emulate, the established vines thrive in the pristine environment of bright sun, clean air and plentiful winter rains at the foot of Mount Strzelecki at the southern end of Flinders Island.

There are approximately 6000 vines separated into 3 blocks surrounded by vegetation windbreaks (Flinders Island is infamous for westerly gales during winter and spring). We have Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon planted.

Tended by hand using organic principles with help from family, friends and the local community the resulting grapes are fermented and bottled in our unassuming onsite winery. We craft vibrant, textural and moreish wines truly reflective of the environs they’re grown in.

We would love to share our journey with you. Come and visit us at our cellar door.

Cheers,

Cassie & Barry
